There have been a number of comments made recently about regular club members wearing 'trainers' and not the obligatory flat soles on the new carpet. Please adhere to the flat shoe rule. No exceptions will be allowed. If you do not  wish to purchase flat bowling shoes, the cobbler in Episcopi will fit flat bottoms to any shoes at a very reasonable price.

3rd January 2012

A useful number of members turned up at the club this morning to take advantage of one fine day to assist the Greenguage Boys in the laying of the new carpet. By 15.00 hrs, the complete carpet had been laid, old carpet had been laid on the green surrounds and all that remained to be done was the sticking of the ditch covering and surrounds. All in all, a very successful day which really does make the Aphrodite Club stand out. On Wednesday 25th the rinks will be measured and marked and all ready for competition by Thursday. Many thanks to Fotini for the lunch provided for the workers!!!

100 Club

What is the “100 club? It is a lottery whereby 100 participants are required to commit to pay €10 a month for the next 12 months, and in return their name will be entered in a monthly draw which offers a €500 prize for the first name drawn that month. The remaining €500 goes to BC funds to assist in the staging of the CoC competition in October, 2012. A few more names are needed to make up the 100. Names, please, before 15^th January, 2012.

9th January 2012

Titbits from the Committee meeting 9th January. Please note that the new green is scheduled to be laid in the week starting 16th January. Please do not try to book any rink for any competition as play will not be possible. All are welcome to come down to the club to watch the new surface being laid.

Following the resignation of Stan Reed as Club Captain, the committee discussed the matter at length and decided that for the time being his duties will be taken over by a bowling sub committee comprising Loukas Paraskeva, Linda Thompson and Martin Hill. The sub committee will deal with all matters relating to bowling at the club and will appoint a 'captain of the day' for individual competitions, matches and teams. If a member has any queries relating to any aspect of bowling they are welcome to discuss the matter with any member of the sub committee who will take it forward as appropriate.

It was decided that, there being sufficient interested bowlers, the club will enter 2 teams in the Bowls Cyprus Tens Tournament. It was agreed that the experience gained by taking part in such tournaments was invaluable, even for inexperienced bowlers. The bowling sub committee will sit down and select members of the Eagles and Falcons teams - more news on the bowling page as it becomes available.

The winter mixed pairs competition was discussed - in particular the reduced number of lady bowlers so that a significant number of men were unable to take part. It was agreed that the competition was too far advanced to make any changes but that the summer competition would be reclassified as an open drawn pairs where teams could be same or mixed sex!!

The Bowls Cyprus National Finals are being held at our club on 3rd and 4th May. Discussion ensued regarding the format for the event including catering and evening entertainment.

Taking into account the changes in membership categories arranged by Theodorou Management, Rule 3 of the club rules has been re written to take the changes into account. Go to the bowling page and then the rules page to see the changes which are highlighted in italix.

Barrie asked that more use be made of the website to inform members of news and any changes being made either on the bowling or social fronts. The bowls co-ordinator, social secretary and the Bowls Cyprus representative were asked for regular reports.

21st December 2011

Some will be aware that there has been  a dispute regarding the teams that our club enters into the Bowls Cyprus Tens League in 2012. For the time being an EGM on the matter has been put into abeyance. However the chairman has asked me to publicise an open meeting at the clubhouse to discuss the matter. This will be held at 12.30 on 29th December 2011.  It is important that you attend and put your views forward.

Martin had a meeting with Anna today. She confirmed that the new carpet will be laid in the middle of January. This may affect some of the nationals but with a little luck the carpet will be down before the Tens Competition starts. We are being given the old carpet for whatever we want to do with it - watch this space especially those of you who enjoyed short mat !!!!

Fees will essentially remain unchanged. €250 for full membership or €30 per month. The good news is that Anna has promised that any proposed changes will, in future, be up for discussion before the club AGM.
