24th February
Report from Efro. John has had a much better day and has been up
and taking a few steps using the Zimmer frame. They say that the
clot on the spine will not dissolve and it is something that he
will have to learn to live with. He is now in room 320,at
the Poly Clinic, and if anyone wants to pop in for a few mins.
That will be ok, he could do with a change of face according to
Efro. He has plenty of books and audio tapes for the time
being. He is likely to be in the clinic for a while and it
will take a few months for him to recover fully.
14th February
Dave Cass. Telephoned Dave in Germany
this morning. He has had yet another, bigger, stronger, longer, hip
replacement. Currently in wheelchair but doing what Ellie and his
daughter are telling him. Tomorrow he will have a kidney removed,
told him I would ring him later in the week. Dave gave no
indication why the kidney had to be removed and I didn't like to ask
too much. I know Dave is no longer a member of the club but sure
people who know him would like an update on the club site.
13th February
JOHN OUT OF ICU AND BACK IN ROOM, WHICH HAS
CHANGED TO 327.
HE SHOULD BE HOME WITHIN ABOUT 4/5 DAYS.
DOCTORS AND EFRO ASKED THAT VISITORS BE RESTRICTED FOR THE TIME
BEING.
EFRO REQUESTS THAT PEOPLE VISIT HIM AT HOME RATHER THAN THE CLINIC.
11th February
Just spoken to Efro, on her way to the clinic. John was better
last evening, he had had a rough day due to a scan which had
left him with a very bad head. However, in the evening he was
better and had had some food. Doctors are happy with results of
scan. He may be out of ICU later today. Efro will be at
club for the tens this afternoon.
1st February
Word from Efro is that John will have the operation a week from
today. There are some tests etc., that need to be carried out.
He is not allowed to read, or watch TV, therefore if you know
anyone who has any talking books he would be very grateful.
Efro has match tomorrow and she will bring John to the club with
her.
29th January 2010
John Tooms was admitted to hospital this morning
with a suspected stroke. No more news available at the moment but it
will be posted here as soon as it arrives. Efro has asked that she
does not get an avalanche of phone calls please.
Have just spoken to Efro, John is now at home. Apparently he
has not had a stroke, he has in fact got a tumour. They have
arranged for him to see a neurologist on Monday and it is likely
that the tumour will be removed sometime during the coming
week. It has been decided that this is the best course of
treatment. John sounds in good spirits, and of course,
will not do as he is told, and stay sitting down.
